Called to Preach

Matthew 10: 1 (KJV) “And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.”

  • You did not call yourself but you were called unto him
  • You did not generate, birth or originate the power – it was given to you
  • The power is for a specific purpose – A continuation of the ministry of Jesus
  • To cast th eunclean spirits out
  • to heal all manner of sickness and disease

Consider
Isaiah 61:1-4 (KJV) “1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

This is the ministry of Jesus

You have the power but you do not preach what you want

Matthew 10: 7 (KJV) “And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

  • You do not dictate what the message you are going to preach – when the power was given, boundaries were defined

Now that you have understood the source of your power and the purpose of that power

consider this verse

John 14:12 (KJV) “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

  • This power that you have been given will enable you do the works that he has done and even greater works. However you are not going to be after the master nor are you going to be above your Lord

Matthew 10: 24 (KJV) “The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.”

  • Though you have power – Jesus is still the Master and Lord, so do not get it twisted!

Just in case you forget, let me point out the following verse from the same chapter

Matthew 10: 5 -6 (KJV) “5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

  • There are boundaries to the power that you have been given – He is the master so he will set rules and boundaries

Ezekiel 33:7 (KJV) “So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me”

Matthew 10:27 (KJV) “What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.”
