Romans 10:17 (KJV) “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Faith cometh by hearing (understanding) and hearing (understanding) by the WORD of GOD.
Understanding allows you to access faith that is contained in what you have heard so that you can act (works of faith) on what you have heard and see a manifestation of what you have heard. Now, this understanding, is not familiarity with the words (symbols and labels) spoken (used) but connecting with the intention (THE WILL OF GOD) that is carried by those words(symbols). This understanding is a function of the heart
Isaiah 6:10 (NKJV) “Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.”
In short THE WORD OF GOD is not just the symbols and labels used but HIS WILL AND INTENTION (THE COUNSEL OF GOD) that they carry
Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV) “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”
