We thought God was taking too long so we made up our own prophecies! Out of necessity we appointed our own prophets. We set our own watchmen to watch over our prophecies.
Furthermore, we designed systems and well thought out institutions to fulfill these prophecies. We were sure of these prophecies so we established doctrines based on them.
We reasoned these doctrines as foundational ‘truths’, so we made disciples and started schools of ministry.
In our schools of ministry we taught these doctrines, and how to prophesy according to the models we established. We wrote books, produced movies, directed plays, printed T-shirts, held conferences, and provided master classes to propagate these doctrines and prophecies. We shopped for A-listers to endorse our prophecies. For good measure we even created our own for verity!
Then God showed up!
Like King Saul we responded- we had to do something because the people were restless.
He rejected our premise and we accused him of being unfair because we had invested too much of our time in it.
We rejected him because the cost was too high- our reputations were at stake.
Grace and repentance were extended but we were stiff necked – God judged, chop down the tree!!! The lake of fire opened!!!
